Needles and Pins...

So, now I have gestational diabetes which I have to control with insulin (the diet thing didn't work, unless I'd lived off bacon and eggs or something for the next six weeks!) injecting three times a day, and still I have to fire a pin into some unfortunate finger or another six times a day to measure my blood sugar on the fancy electronic doodad.

I tell you, the injecting is much less painful than the finger thing. I admire the people with actual diabetes who have to live with this sort of thing all their lives! It also means the baby may have to be delivered early by C-section (!! I'm scared of surgery !!). We'll find out at our next growth scan on 8th March.

Anyway, on more pleasant needles (the slightly blunt knitting kind), I have got to the neck ribbing of the deep v neck sweater. This involves picking up god knows how many stitches around the neck:

Which is mysteriously uneven despite all my careful measuring. I think I can sort it though.

Here is some knitting on a bowl:

This is the front something I'm knitting for my friend's chap for his skiing trip. She said she thought for her the pattern was 'too hard' (she is wrong) but that I would say it was 'challenging'. It's Swell from Knitty Summer 06. Here's the back:

The bowl, by the way, was made by Barbara, a fellow Morris Dancer and very talented potter. It has a line from 'Dance to your Daddy' around the top (I think it's actually a line added by Nancy Kerr, who's been known to adlib various seafood, including; 'you shall have a mermaid...boiled in a pan'!) and it has a leaping fish decoration. I love it, and she sold it to me for far too little.

Here is some knitting in a bowl:

about one sixteenth of a Hareton Sock, I wasn't sure if grey was a wise choice at first as you can't really see the moss stitch pattern, but as it gets longer it starts to appear.

This bowl has been about for ages, and we keep acquiring more and more, it's like a pottery addiction. It's a good job kilns are expensive or that would be another craft I'd quite like to take up.

We're off to St Ives for a few days tomorrow, our last baby-less trip, and also I have my tenth birthday on Friday (do, as our American friends would say, the math ;0). I just can't wait to see the sea !!!

Grey seems to be a popular colour for Haretons, judging by the WIPs on Ravelry. :-)

Fingers crossed for your next scan. Surgery is always a last resort and I'm sure it won't be done unless absolutely necessary.

Here's some more fingers crossed for you, too.

You'll get used to the finger-poking faster than you think--I never thought I'd be able to do it to myself, but now I don't even flinch and it causes only a little discomfort. I'm glad that it's not a permanent diagnosis for you, though, and that you'll be back to "normal" after baby. <3

Speaking of tiny persons... would you be willing to possibly e-mail me your address? I have something here to send along. =D
